What’s one thing you wish you had started doing earlier in life?

I’m sure there are hundreds of things I wish I could have started or done earlier in my life. Two things stand: First, starting to read books. I grew up in a small Midwest farming town, and I was always outside playing. Reading never came into my mind until I got my first Nancy Drew book. Don’t know why my mom gave it to me, but it started me on a journey.

The second thing can drive me crazy thinking about it. Why didn’t teachers/parents teach children how to study??? I mean they give us homework after all. While my younger sister never needed to study, I found that I could get Bs without any worries. I thought as long as I read the material, I should be fine. Then someone created a study group and gave me a completely different way to learn and remember the material.

Why do we tell kids to do something without explaining how to do it? Well, done with soapbox.

It’s all in DNA. I for one, was ahead of the game. Wrote silly teen stories and even have them published by silly teen mags. Not just luck, but I worked at it. Then came mountain stories on Amazon. http://www.deetezellimountainstories.wordpress.com

Learning from others especially your peers can be rewarding. It’s sharing the learning process and understanding different techniques. Teachers, u fortunately don’t have the time to teach the child only time to teach the class. So, it’s easy to miss the point, not get it, or feel rejected and demoralised when others do and you don’t.
