Which book’s world would be the absolute worst to live in?

Any book world with zombies would be an immediate NO from me! Add endless wars or a situation where I die over and over, and I’m definitely staying home.
And let’s not forget those horror stories where everyone insists on investigating the strange noise, going into the dark basement, or splitting up. I’d be the one saying, “We’re leaving. Right now!” 
I mean, come on if there is a perfectly good car that runs, choose it not the scary, torture chamber or basement.
That doesn’t mean I’d choose a perfect paradise. Give me a world with plenty of adventure, places to explore, and maybe a little real magic. I don’t mind a challenge—I’d just prefer a reasonable chance of surviving it!
