I grew up in a small town of about 200 people. In fifth grade, my best friend was Cindy. Like most ten-year-olds, we didn’t think much about how quickly life could change. We simply expected our friendship to continue.
Then, the summer after fifth grade, her family moved away.
Even now, all these years later, I wish I’d had the chance to tell her goodbye. I wonder where she is, what kind of life she’s had, and whether she ever thinks about our friendship, too.
